How do I prepare and send my documents to the CAF?

  1. Photograph each page flat, well lit, without cutting off the edges.
  2. Choose the “Grey” or “Black and white” style, then press “Create scanned PDF”.
  3. Upload the PDF on caf.fr or in the “Caf - Mon Compte” app, in the “Mes démarches” section.

On caf.fr, the CAF explains the procedure: from the “Mon Compte” area or the “Caf - Mon Compte” app, “Mes démarches” section, “à transmettre” (to send) tab. You can scan the document or take a photo of it. Accepted formats: JPEG, JPG, PDF, PNG and GIF. Size: 10 MB max for the whole document, all pages included. And only one type of document per upload: three payslips make one upload, a payslip and a rent receipt make two. Your uploads then appear in “Mes courriers, courriels”.

Many procedures don't require any supporting document. According to the CAF, most changes of situation (family, work, bank details) are declared directly in “Mon Compte”. The quarterly declaration for the RSA and the prime d'activité (French income-support benefits) is made online, every three months. Since 1 March 2025, it has been pre-filled with the net social amount (montant net social). Correcting a pre-filled amount? You then need a supporting document, such as a payslip. For housing benefit, the list of documents to send is displayed at the end of the online application. The rent certificate (Cerfa no. 10842*07) is filled in by your landlord, your housing provider or the manager of the hostel.

A photo is accepted if all the information can be read: sharp text, image not cut off, skewed or blurred. Before confirming, the CAF advises checking the preview (the little eye above the “Continuer” button). The Scan tool whitens the background and removes shadows. The PDF stays on your phone until you upload it yourself on caf.fr. Information checked on 27 September 2026: always rely on what the site shows at the time you upload.

Frequently asked questions

What formats and file size does the CAF accept?

JPEG, JPG, PDF, PNG or GIF, and 10 MB max for the whole document, all pages included (CAF pages on caf.fr, checked on 27/09/2026). If these rules are not met, a red alert appears and the procedure cannot continue. File too large? Reduce it with the Compress tool.

Can I send several documents at once?

Only if they are of the same type. Three payslips can go together; a payslip and a rent receipt make two uploads. To combine your three payslips into a single PDF, use the Merge tool.

Do I need a supporting document to declare a change of situation?

Usually not: according to the CAF, most changes of situation are declared directly in “Mon Compte”, without any supporting document. If the CAF asks you for a document, its request appears in the “La Caf me demande” (the CAF is asking me) section.

Are my documents uploaded online?

No. The PDF is created in your browser. Only the CAF receives it, when you upload it yourself to your account area.
