How do I make my CV anonymous as a PDF?

1. Choose your CV as a PDF. A Word CV? Convert it first with the Word to PDF tool.
2. Tap “Detect personal data” (e-mail, phone), search for your name and address, then drag over your photo.
3. Press “Redact and save”, then check the resulting CV.

In France, an anonymous CV is possible but optional: article L1221-7 of the Code du travail (French Labour Code) provides that a candidate's written information “may be examined under conditions that preserve their anonymity”. Some companies, recruitment firms and back-to-work programmes ask for one to limit discrimination in hiring.

What identifies a candidate: first name and surname, photo, address, e-mail and phone, date of birth or age, nationality, family situation, links to an online profile. Keep what matters for the job: experience, skills, education, languages. So that you can be contacted, follow the instructions you received, for example an application reference.

Beware of one effect of redaction: every page where you hide something becomes an image, and recruitment software will no longer be able to read its text. If the anonymous CV has to be uploaded to a platform, run the result through the OCR tool, or prepare the anonymous version in Word instead, then convert it with Word to PDF. Your CV doesn't leave your device.
