How do I redact a PDF?

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Tap “Detect personal data”, search for a word, or drag over the areas to hide.
  3. Press “Redact and save”, then download the protected version.

A simple black box placed over a PDF is not enough: the text often remains underneath, and a copy and paste is all it takes to recover it. TwoDocument's redaction really removes the hidden information.

The “Detect personal data” button finds IBANs, card numbers, social security numbers, e-mail addresses and phone numbers on every page in one go. You can also search for a word (a name, an address): every occurrence is hidden. Then check each page, and add areas by hand if needed.

Redacted pages are turned into images, and the file's hidden information (author, title) is erased. Everything happens on your device: the original document is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can the hidden text be recovered?

No. The affected pages are redrawn without the hidden information: it no longer exists in the file.

Why can't I select the text on redacted pages any more?

To be sure the information is removed, these pages are turned into images. The other pages stay the same.

What data is detected automatically?

IBANs, bank card numbers, social security numbers, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Names and postal addresses are not recognized: search for them or hide them by hand.

Does the search find everything?

It finds text written in the PDF. Scanned pages (images) cannot be searched: hide them by hand.

Is my document uploaded online?

No, never. Everything happens in your browser.
