How do I fill in a Cerfa PDF form?

  1. Download the Cerfa from service-public.gouv.fr, then choose it here.
  2. Fill in the fields, which are shown as a list, one by one.
  3. Press “Save form”, read it through, then sign it with the Sign tool if needed.

Cerfa forms are published as PDFs on service-public.gouv.fr (formerly service-public.fr), the official French administration website. The site distinguishes three kinds: “printable” forms, to fill in by hand; “fillable” forms, which you complete with the keyboard; and “submittable” forms, which you can also send online. When the PDF contains fields, TwoDocument shows them in a clear list that is easy to fill in with your finger on a phone.

Service-public points out that, to be accepted by the administration, a form must not have been altered in any way. So only fill in the boxes provided, without touching the text of the Cerfa. Some forms are marked “spécimen” (specimen): they are given as examples and are not meant to be filled in, because a professional (a doctor, for example) or a service counter takes care of them.

A Cerfa often contains your tax number, your address or your income. Here, it is filled in within your browser: your answers are not sent to anyone. Before you start, also check whether the administration offers an online service: paper Cerfa forms are gradually being replaced by online procedures.

Frequently asked questions

My Cerfa has no fields to fill in, why?

It is a “printable” form, designed to be filled in by hand. Print it, or write your answers in the boxes with the Edit tool, as you would with a pen, then sign with the Sign tool. Also check on service-public.gouv.fr whether there is a fillable version or an online service.

The PDF only shows “To view the full contents of this document…”, what should I do?

This message means the form is designed for Adobe Reader. Service-public recommends saving it on your computer and then opening it with Adobe Reader. For some Cerfa forms, the site also offers a “static version” to print.

Should I “flatten” the form?

Flattening turns your answers into fixed text that can no longer be changed: useful for the final version. Keep an unflattened copy if you think you may need to correct an answer.

Is my information sent anywhere?

No. The Cerfa is filled in within your browser. It only leaves when you send it to the administration yourself.
