How do I convert a PDF to PDF/A?

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Keep PDF/A-2b, the most widely accepted version, unless you are asked for PDF/A-1b.
  3. Press “Convert to PDF/A”, then download the file.

PDF/A (ISO 19005 standard) guarantees that a document will look the same in twenty years' time: its fonts and colours are included in the file, and it contains no scripts, no links to external content and no encryption.

PDF/A-1b or 2b: which should I choose?

PDF/A-2b works almost everywhere and keeps transparency and modern compression. Choose PDF/A-1b only if the site or organization specifically asks for it.

Can my password-protected PDF be converted?

A PDF/A cannot be encrypted. Remove the protection first with the Unlock tool, then convert it.

Does the text stay selectable?

Yes. Even on a page turned into an image, the text is still there, invisibly, for searching and for copying and pasting.

Is my document uploaded online?
