TwoDocument or iLovePDF: the differences
Both services offer around thirty PDF tools. The main difference: on the iLovePDF website, your files are uploaded to its servers; with TwoDocument, they stay on your device. Here is a factual comparison, dated and sourced.

Where your files are processed
On the iLovePDF website, your files are uploaded to iLovePDF's servers to be processed. According to its Security and FAQ pages, they are automatically deleted within two hours, and you can also delete them yourself from the download screen. Transfers are encrypted (HTTPS). The company, based in Barcelona, states that it complies with the GDPR and is ISO/IEC 27001 certified. Documents signed with its signature service are kept for up to 5 years.
iLovePDF also offers an app for Windows and macOS that processes files on the computer, offline. It is included in the paid plan.
On TwoDocument, processing is done by your browser, on your device, including on the free plan. The file is never uploaded, so there is nothing to delete on a server. You can check this yourself on the “Privacy proof” page.
Free plan and prices
iLovePDF offers a free plan, usable without an account, with limited document processing and per-task caps: for example 1 file of 15 MB for Word to PDF, 2 files of 200 MB for Compress, 25 files of 100 MB for Merge. When we checked, Premium cost US$5 a month billed annually (US$60 a year) or US$9 billed monthly. The price shown may vary by country. One year of Premium is free for students and teaching staff.
TwoDocument is completely free during its launch. After that, the free plan will give 3 documents a day, without an account. The planned paid options are a 24-hour pass for €1.99 and Premium for €3.99 a month or €29.99 a year. They are not open yet.
What iLovePDF does better
iLovePDF has been around since 2010 and goes further in several ways: apps for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android; a site available in 26 languages; import from Google Drive and Dropbox; integrations (Zapier, Make, WordPress) and an API for developers; signature requests to other people and advanced electronic signatures with iLoveSign; conversion of a web page from its address; detection and creation of form fields. Its AI tools (summary, translation) work in every browser, because they run on its servers.
TwoDocument, for its part, is available in French, English, Spanish and Arabic, and only on the web (the site can be added to your home screen). Processing several files at once is offered for eight tools. Its Summarize and Translate tools only work in Google Chrome on a computer.
What TwoDocument does differently
No files uploaded, on any plan. No ads, no selling of data, optional account. Tools that are already open work offline. No size cap set by the service: the only limit is your device's memory.
For an ID document, payslips, a tax notice or a lease, this is often the deciding factor: the file stays with you, and you don't have to trust any server.
