How do I protect my ID document with a watermark?

  1. Choose the copy of your ID document (as a PDF; a photo? Convert it first with Photo to PDF).
  2. Write who you are sending it to and why, with the date.
  3. Press “Add watermark”, then download the protected copy.

A copy of an ID document in circulation can be used to open an account or take out a loan in your name. The official website of the French administration recommends adding a watermark showing the recipient, the purpose and the date.

Example: “Copy for the Martin agency, rental application, September 2026”. Place it diagonally, across the whole page, so that it is hard to remove.

Above all, your ID document is never uploaded: the watermark is added by your browser, on your device.
