How do I put together my social housing application?

  1. Choose your supporting document as a PDF: ID document, tax notice or payslip.
  2. Choose the “Strong” level: a PDF is limited to 1 MB on the site.
  3. Press “Compress”, check that the file is under 1 MB, then upload it to your application.

The application is made online, on demande-logement-social.gouv.fr (“Créer une demande” button), or at a registration office (guichet enregistreur) with Cerfa form no. 14069. In Île-de-France, a single application covers the whole region; elsewhere, you need one application per département. Note: some départements have their own website, and applications for them cannot be made on the national site. Their list appears on the site's home page. Once the application is validated, within 5 working days at most, you receive an 18-digit unique registration number. Keep it: you need it to modify and renew your application.

To register the application, one ID document is enough: an ID card (front and back), a passport, or a valid residence permit. Signed in with FranceConnect? You won't be asked for it. To strengthen your application, add the ID documents of the people in your household, your proof of income (payslips, tax notices), a rent receipt and any document about your situation. The list of supporting documents is set by an order (arrêté) of 22 December 2020. Are you being housed by someone else? The form asks for the name of the person or organization housing you. An incomplete application can be submitted straight away: its seniority counts from the date it is validated, and you complete it afterwards.

Formats accepted on the national website: PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF and BMP. A file must not exceed 3.9 MB, and only 1 MB for a PDF. If you have trouble, the site recommends the JPG, JPEG or BMP formats: the PDF to JPG tool turns each page into an image. The application is valid for one year. Renew it between the 10th and 12th month; a reminder is sent at least one month before the deadline, but letters and text messages are not sent abroad. On renewal, the social security number of the applicant and of the co-applicant is required. Information checked on 27 September 2026 on demande-logement-social.gouv.fr and service-public.gouv.fr.

Frequently asked questions

What file size does the site accept?

3.9 MB per file, except for PDFs, which are limited to 1 MB (FAQ on demande-logement-social.gouv.fr, checked on 27/09/2026). Accepted formats: PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF and BMP. PDF too large? Compress it at the “Strong” level, or turn its pages into JPG images.

What is the unique number for?

It is an 18-digit number, given to you when your application is validated. It allows social landlords to identify your application, and allows you to manage it online. An application submitted at a registration office is linked to your account using this number, which appears on the registration certificate.

When should I renew my application?

Every year, between the 10th and 12th month after it was created or last renewed. Otherwise, it is cancelled. A reminder is sent at least one month before the deadline. The site also invites you to upload your latest tax notice in the “revenus annuels” (annual income) section.

Are my supporting documents sent to TwoDocument?

No. The compression happens in your browser. Only the social housing application website receives your files, when you upload them yourself.
