How do I password-protect a PDF?

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Choose a password and confirm it.
  3. Press “Protect PDF”, then download it.

Before e-mailing a payslip, a tax notice or a bank statement, protect it with a password: even if the message is forwarded by mistake, the document stays unreadable without the password.

TwoDocument uses AES 256-bit encryption, the strongest the PDF format provides. Then share the password by a different channel from the document, for example by text message.

Which password should I choose?

At least 8 characters, with no obvious personal information. A short sentence that is easy to remember is a good choice.

What if I forget the password?

It cannot be recovered: TwoDocument does not know it. Keep an unprotected copy of your document.

Does the protected PDF open everywhere?

Yes, all current PDF readers (Adobe, browsers, Preview, phones) ask for the password when opening it.

Is my document uploaded online?

No, it is encrypted in your browser.
